Every school in England gets inspected by Ofsted inspectors so that they can check that the school is giving children a good education. It has been over four years since our last inspection. We had a telephone call the afternoon before the inspectors came and on 18th and 19th September 2012 we had our most recent Ofsted inspection. I have to say that we were very happy to welcome Ofsted into our school because we wanted to share the great things that we do. We were a little bit nervous too!
We had three inspectors who stayed for two whole days. They took lots of our files back to their office. I cannot explain how delighted we all were that the Ofsted inspectors thought so highly of our school that they graded us as ‘Outstanding’. It is a testament to the hard work of the children, parents, teachers and governors who all work so well together.
I must admit that I was a little worried that our attendance was going to stop us from getting this top grade. Here is what the Ofsted inspectors said:
What does the school need to do to improve further?
Attendance is now slightly above the national average but needs to be improved so that it is well above the national average by:
increasing the requirement on families not to take their children from school for holidays.
increasing liaison with families where there is a reluctance to send children to school.
We will have to work even harder to improve children’s attendance because the inspectors will be checking up on it.
Children, you were brilliant as usual. The inspectors looked at your books, heard over 50 of you read and watched you at playtimes and dinner times. They also saw you eating your dinner in the hall. They talked to children from juniors and a group of children from the infants, as well as talking to lots of teachers and parents. They also talked to the Chair of Governors and to Mrs Austin. They checked on our safeguarding too. They went into loads of lessons and saw lots of outstanding teaching.
